Trupti Magecha, deep:black
I’ve just finished delivering workshops for our EU Commission project A Creative Approach to Resilience and Bravery in Education in Helsinki.
It’s been a deep dive into the challenges facing teachers who demonstrate incredible commitment, integrity and compassion for students.
The anxiety of an exsitential threat felt live and prevalent in our training room. One of our teachers told us in addition to her regularly teaching she reassures her students experiencing anxiety, ‘the war may be coming but it isn’t here today’
A challenging context and a reminder how grateful I am to offer support to a profession that continues to support our children while confronting a terror that looms ever closer.
I heard that those who can are quietly making contingency plans to evacuate their homes and flee with their loved ones, while hoping that there may yet be a way to avoid a conflict that might be catastrophic.
And this in addition to cuts to spending in education, facing greater complexity in the classroom with a broader range of support needs and an increasingly more diverse cohort of students many who are new to Finnish language and culture.
Feeling incredibly inspired and very grateful.
Resilience and Bravery presonified.
Thank you to the courageous Fanny Matheusen who walks with me in this work and the fabulous Kaisa Pelkonen at Laurea University of Applied Sciences who brought together this group of extraordinary teachers.
